The September show entitled, “Sports”, will feature local photographer Billy Armendariz, and Joanie Wolter, a sculptor from Arizona. Sports photography and whimsical sports figures will be on display.
Billy Armendariz acquired a passion for sports as a young man growing up in the Los Angeles area. After becoming the Sports editor for the Headlight he became immersed in the pursuit of that “perfect” sports photo. He has won 29 NMPA (New Mexico Press Association awards. The highlight of his career came in 2012 when the Deming Headlight won 12 awards – 9 of those were his. He has been the editor of the Deming Headlight since 2004.
Joanie Wolter was born and raised in Southern California. After a move to Sedona she found a new passion – sculpting. The pieces she creates are who she is – a little goofy and fun loving. Most of her “senior series” pieces are modeled after her – full figured, middle aged women ready to live life to its fullest. She has won many awards for her work -most recently for her piece called “The Crush”. She also teaches classes in Sedona, and has taught classes at the Deming Art Center this past year. Her blend of humor, creativity, and imagination, along with mixed media, create pieces she truly hopes you will enjoy. See her work at www.cuveeart.com.
